We had a symposium on John Kizell and confronted the legacy of the slave trade and slavery in America. We had the red rice luncheon later in the day and that was also a blast. The mayor of Beaufort called on us and talked about our strong links. We were entertained by Gullah singers and we gave them our own taste of national folk songs.
The historic Penn Center, located on St. Helena Island, South Carolina, is expecting between 8,000—10,000 visitors for this year’s celebration. Visitors from all parts of the country and the world will converge on St. Helena Island to revel in an exciting three-day event that includes food, music, educational seminars, arts and crafts, a parade, and the cultural traditions of the Gullah people.
